What a great weekend we had at the fourth annual Health & Fitness Expo presented by Quest Diagnostics and hosted by NBC 4 New York and Telemundo 47. The May 14-15 event at East Rutherford, New Jersey’s MetLife Stadium featured everything from yoga and aerobic workouts to opportunities to meet New York Giants players and Olympians, to free health screenings provided by Quest.
The Health & Fitness Expo got underway Saturday with more than 2,000 runners and walkers taking part in the 2016 Walk to Cure Arthritis. The family fun continued with on-field activities, tours of the Giants locker room, player meet-and-greet sessions, cooking demos, and more, including Quest mascot Quiggles!
Giants, Olympians, Biggest Losers & Top Chefs
NBC 4’s Bruce Beck and Telemundo 47 sportscaster Veronica Contreras served as hosts for the free event, along with Giants running back Rashad Jennings and former Giant punter/Super Bowl XLVI champion Steve Weatherford.
Giants Super Bowl champion quarterback and NBC Sunday Night Football commentator Phil Simms was on hand to host a discussion about healthy living habits. Other Giants players who met fans during the Health & Fitness Expo included Jasper Brinkley, Jonathan Casillas, Victor Cruz, Geremy Davis, Zak DeOssie, Larry Donnell, Damon Harrison, Mark Herzlich, J.T. Thomas, Shane Verezen, and Brad Wing.
The Health & Fitness Expo also featured former several former Olympians. Heather Bown, a silver medalist volleyballer, para-alpine skier Tyler Carter, bronze medal luger Erin Hamlin, gold medalist bobsledder Steve Mesler, and gold medal rower Taylor Ritzel all appeared on the Stage of Champions. Each of the Olympians is involved with Classroom Champions, an organization founded by Mesler to mentor at-risk students.
Giving attendees tops on staying in shape were “Biggest Loser” contestants Nicole Brewer Gurganious (season 14) and Olivia Ward (season 11), while “Top Chef” contestants Ariane Duarte (season 5) and Kwame Onwuachi (season 13) demonstrated their favorite healthy recipes.
Free Health Screenings
Upstairs in MetLife Stadium’s Commissioners Club, the Quest Diagnostics Health Center welcomed attendees 18 and over to receive free health screenings. A team of skilled Quest phlebotomists took blood samples to be tested for cholesterol, vitamin D, kidney function and blood sugar level.
