The 36th National Society of Genetic Counselors (NSGC) Annual Conference was held from September 13-16 in Columbus, Ohio and 17 members of the Quest Diagnostics’ Genetic Counselor (GC) Organization attended. The purpose of the conference is to showcase advancements in the genetic counseling profession, as well as educate attendees and build community. The theme for the 2017 conference was “Growing Our Profession to New Heights.”

Highlights from the Quest GC Organization included two poster presentations (Susan Koch, Elaine Hiller, Carolyn Castonguay, and Susan Hahn), two platform presentations with Quest GC speakers (Joy Redman and Steve Keiles), and the receipt of the NSGC Volunteer of the Year award to Quest GC Kate Wilson. Our GCs were also very busy with meetings regarding volunteer positions with NSGC, the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC), and the Accreditation Council for Genetic Counseling (ACGC).

In addition, the Quest GCs spent time at the Quest exhibitor booth connecting with attendees and answering questions. In between all the work and activities, the GCs were able to attend educational sessions to learn about advances in genetic testing, current issues in genetic services, and professional development.
